Van Vliet and Verburg organized international workshop on land change synthesis studies
June 3 and 4 Jasper van Vliet and Peter Verburg organized a workshop entitled “Globalizing our understanding of land system changes” in collaboration with researchers from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County.
The workshop brought together experts from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and geographic expertise that have been involved in a variety of synthesis studies. Topics discussed include gaps in the current coverage of land change synthesis studies, the role of actors in land system changes and the applicability of synthesis studies for policy support. The workshop was supported by the socio-environmental synthesis centre in Annapolis, MD (www.sesync.org) and contributes to global land project (www.globallandproject.org).
